Robotic Bat Swoops in For Information

What if you saw a bat; A robotic bat? That is not so far-fetched these days, and you may find one flying around your house one day. Well, probably not, but I am sure if you did, it would be a sight to see. Appropriately named, the COM-BAT is a six-inch robotic spy plane modeled after a bat that would gather data from sights, sounds and smells in urban combat zones and transmit information back to a soldier in real time. Pretty cool, eh?

A select group of people at the University of Michigan have been blessed with a $10 million grant from the US Army in order to create this robotic creature. The COM-BAT will eventually boast a plethora of sensors, microphones and detectors for picking up nuclear radiation and poisonous gases. In addition to that, in our ever-growing knowledge to become more efficient, the bat will also be equipped with an "energy scavenging" feature that allows the COM-BAT to stay charged from wind and solar energy along with vibrations and "other sources."

Although it'll probably never be sold for public use, I think I want one.
