Goodbye Mouse, Hello Hand

I've been using a mouse for many years so it is hard for me to imagine a computer without a mouse. I have a feeling Bill Gates is right when he said the days of the mouse are doomed.

He envisions the near future where waving ones hands over a sensor is the way to interface with your computer. He stops short of saying the keyboard is going away and he claims the days of the mouse are numbered. If you've ever seen the movie Minority Report then you'll instantly think of Tom Cruise whizzing around potential criminals' backgrounds with a flick of the finger, a drag of the hand, and swirl of the arm.

It is a cool idea and I can believe it with multitouch going everywhere, and devices like the touchwall and Surface; They are about to explode into the mainstream. Of course, problems arise when we look at those who play games on the computer. Gamers are huge fans of the soon-to-be ancient mouse, some spending real money for precision mouses for their virtual worlds. For the rest of us, though, you might start seeing them disappear sooner than you’d think.

Until then, enjoy your mouse while you can. I wonder what is going to happen to the keyboard?
