Well, it is April 1st and you know what that means....pranks! I'm not too much of a prankster, but love it when other people are pranked or the pranksters (I just made that up). It makes me laugh, especially when big time companies do it like Google.
Google is known for their humorous personalities and creativeness so it should not surprise you that of all the large companies out there, Google would be the company to pull off a little joke or two. Google loves to do April Fools jokes and they mainly center around new products.
Last year was "Google Romance" and this year they have two fake products: Google TiSP (free broadband service) and and Google Paper, which prints out Gmail on paper for you, and sends it to you! Google TiSP is a free, self installed free home wireless broadband service. It operates via a long fiber optic cable that connects to the sewage line. The service is free and ad supported. A quote from Google about the service states:
"We use information gathered by discreet DNA sequencing of your personal bodily output to display online ads that are contextually relevant to your culinary preferences, current health status and likelihood of developing particular medical conditions going forward."
Pretty funny, eh?
The other product, Google Paper, is a new feature being promoted on the Gmail home page. You can request a physical copy of any email with the click of a button, and Google will deliver paper printouts to you in 2-4 days via the mail. Like Google TiSP, Google Paper is supported by ads and is free. The ads will appear on the back of your printed mail and will be relevant and unobtrusive. Google also expresses that the paper will be 96% organic, so it will provide a healthier experience for you and the rest of the world.
I think they are both pretty awesome ideas! haha
Watch out today, because you just might be fooled!
