Massive Pileup Closes California Highway

Tragically, 2 people died in an accident that involved about 100 cars and trucks. The first person was a 26 year old man, and the other was a 5 year old boy traveling in a separate vehicle. More than a dozen people were hospitalized. The cause? Thick fog.

In what could only be described as a nightmare, the fog caused more than 100 cars and trucks to crash on a fog-shrouded freeway Saturday, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more. About eighteen big rigs were involved also and two of them were leaking gallons of fuel, which was said to have been contained.

It was said that one driver was on his way to deliver asphalt when he was suddenly hit. He got out to investigate and heard other crashes, and said he jumped right back in his car. Very smart!

So why exactly had this happened? Because of thick fog called "Tule fog" which typically occurs in California (I have family there) in the late fall and winter. This isn't a new thing. This has happened in 99 and in '02, also killing a few people.

I think, if possible, they should do something about that deadly fog. It is only a matter of time before it happens again, maybe taking even more lives. Until then, drive safely!
